HARRISBURG – Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland/Somerset) announced today that Jenner Area Joint Sewer Authority has been awarded a $5.2 million Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) low-interest loan to make upgrades to the existing wastewater treatment plant serving the communities of Boswell Borough, Jenner Township and Jennerstown Borough in Somerset County.
“Access to safe, clean and reliable drinking water is a necessity for public health, economic growth and a fundamental element for improved quality of life whether it is for domestic use in our homes, food production or recreational purposes,” said Rossi. “I am pleased to see Jenner Area Joint Sewer Authority taking full advantage of this low-interest PENNVEST loan to complete these much-needed upgrades to their wastewater treatment facility.”
The loan, which includes a 1% interest rate and a 240-month term, was approved by the PENNVEST Board of Directors. The improvement project involves the replacement of the treatment facility’s headworks to improve debris and grit removal; installation of piping to treat and reroute the flow of wastewater; and the installation of two new digester tanks to include sludge pumping and blowers for waste circulation.
PENNVEST offers grants and low-interest loans to communities across the Commonwealth for sewer, stormwater and water projects. PENNVEST funding comes from a combination of state funds approved by voters, federal grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and recycled loan repayments from previous PENNVEST funding awards.
Funds for the projects are disbursed after bills for work are paid and receipts are submitted to PENNVEST.
“This project is a tremendous example of state and municipal governments working together to effectively meet the essential needs of the citizens we serve in a fiscally responsible manner,” said Rossi. “Moving forward, I encourage more of our local governments to take advantage of these funding opportunities to make our communities even better places to live, work and raise a family. My staff and I are here to help.”
