WESTMORELAND COUNTY – Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland) today announced the Mountain Watershed Association (MWA) has secured $72,000 in funding from the Commonwealth's Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP).
“MWA’s dedication to preserving and improving our local environment makes them an invaluable partner in our efforts to create better recreational spaces in Westmoreland County,” said Rossi. “The work on the Indian Creek Valley Trail will not only enhance safety and accessibility but also ensure these natural areas are protected for future generations to enjoy.”
The MWA will use the funds to address safety hazards and enhance recreational access along the Indian Creek Valley Trail. The grant will support the restoration of the trail's Indian Creek Gorge section, which was damaged by a severe storm in 2021, and the resurfacing of the historic Jones Mills section. These improvements will increase safety, accessibility, and environmental protection for the surrounding natural areas, including MWA's Rasler Run property.
The GTRP, which is funded through the Marcellus Legacy Fund established under Act 13 of 2012, provides essential support for the planning, development, and enhancement of public parks, trails, greenways, and other recreational spaces across Pennsylvania.
