Rossi Announces State Funding for Traffic Safety Improvements in Latrobe

February 10, 2026

LATROBE – Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland) today announced the City of Latrobe will receive nearly $474,000 in state funding to complete traffic signal and detection upgrades aimed at improving safety and traffic flow at key intersections.

“Road safety is one of our most important responsibilities,” said Rossi. “This investment in the City of Latrobe will make a big difference for drivers and pedestrians. The upgrades will modernize traffic signals at busy intersections, improve traffic flow and help prevent accidents. I’m please to see Westmoreland County receive funding that benefits our community.”

The funding was awarded through PennDOT’s Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) program and will support a complete traffic signal upgrade at the intersection of Route 982 and Ligonier Street, as well as vehicle detection upgrades along Route 982.

The City of Latrobe project is among 51 safety efforts in 44 municipalities statewide receiving funding as part of PennDOT’s latest ARLE grant awards. In total, the program is investing more than $27 million to improve safety at signalized intersections across the Commonwealth.

Pennsylvania’s ARLE program targets intersections where date shows red-light running has been a safety concern. Grant funding is supplied by fines from red-light violations at intersections in Philadelphia, as directed by state law. Eligible projects must improve safety, enhance mobility or reduce congestion.
