Rossi: Local Projects Receive Funding Through State Grant Program

March 18, 2026

HARRISBURG - Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland) today announced nearly $407,000 in Local Share Account grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for projects serving communities in Westmoreland County.

“These grants will help our communities address important needs, from public safety improvements to infrastructure upgrades,” said Rossi. “Using gaming funds for projects such as these helps local governments make needed improvements without placing additional burdens on taxpayers.”

Rossi worked with Sens. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) and Joe Pittman (R-Armstrong/Indiana/Jefferson/Westmoreland) to secure the funding.

The following projects received funding:

• Derry Township: $25,000 to purchase two new mowers to maintain township parks and community gathering spaces.
• Latrobe City: $75,000, for the demolition of the former Olympic Theatre on Main Street and the creation of a temporary park or green space in partnership with the Latrobe Foundation.
• Ligonier Borough: $49,880, to purchase a mobile vehicle barrier system to secure roadways and protect pedestrians during festivals and public events.
• Mount Pleasant Township: $25,000, on behalf of the Westmoreland Homesteads Volunteer Fire Department, to improve the driveway at the fire station to enhance emergency vehicle response.
• Mount Pleasant Township: $100,000, to purchase a new municipal truck to replace an aging vehicle used for road maintenance, snow removal and stormwater management.
• Seward Borough: $31,766, to purchase a tractor with a backhoe and bucket to maintain streets and drainage systems.
• Unity Township: $100,000, to replace the deteriorating culvert on Macey Road and stabilize the roadway.

Local Share Account grants support economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects through gaming funds generated at Pennsylvania casinos. The Commonwealth Financing Authority is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development and distributes funding through several programs dedicated to economic growth.
